The Second Summit of BH Youth

Tuesday, 22. April 2008

Dear young Bosnians and Herzegovinians throughout the world, With great pleasure we would like to announce, having in mind the last year's success, the Second Summit of BH Youth, which will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 21st to 28th of July, 2008. We are pleased to have the Youth Information Agency (OIA) as our principal partner as well as the Ministry of Education of Canton Sarajevo and the BH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees as our sponsors.

"Young people erasing borders" is the slogan of the Second Summit of BH Youth. The principle goal of this summit is to motivate young people to create an open society in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to lead BiH towards European and world integration processes. Youth activism, higher education, economic development, European integration, communication, tourism and sport are just a sampling of topics that will be covered at this summit.

Compared to last year, we have decided to further enrich this year's program. Now it includes:

  • participation of 50 young people currently living in BiH because we believe that the young people living outside of BiH can best serve their homeland through active cooperation, friendship, and exchange ideas with those living in BiH
  • summit locations in Sarajevo, Kraljeva Sutjeska (and Bobovac), Jajce and Banja Luka

The mail goal of the First Summit of BH Youth was creation of a global BH Youth Union and we can proudly announce that we have successfully completed that goal by creating the Young Diaspora of Bosnia-Herzegovina Association. This year, we would like to use the opportunity to actively involve individuals in the Association’s work, as well as to create and launch projects that will benefit the BH society as a whole, especially youth.

Criteria for participation:

  • BiH origins
  • currently living or residing outside of BiH
  • between 18 and 35 years of age
  • advantage will be given to students, individuals active on the diaspora level, individuals engaged in activities related to Bosnia and Herzegovina and individuals who would like to contribute to the well-being of Bosnia and Herzegovina, either by knowledge-sharing or experience

Program Fee of 20 € includes:

  • accommodation during the entire program
  • food and refreshments
  • transportation during the program
  • excursions
  • working material
  • party tickets

If you would like to participate please fill out and submit your application via email to susret@mladadijaspora.ba before May 31st, 2008.

Dear friends:

On behalf of the Voice of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we would like to thank you for your support of the Fifth Annual Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival™ (BHFF™).
This two-day festival, which took place May 9-10 at Tribeca Cinemas, home of the Tribeca Film Festival, and consisted of ten feature, documentary and short films by emerging and internationally-renowned filmmakers, drew over 300 people. Five films had their U.S. premiere at BHFF, including “Esma,” “Patria Mia, nomad direction,” “Not if you can, but you must,” “What do I know” and “The Rhythm of Life.”   The festival also screened a feature film titled "Silent Gunpowder" in memory of late Bahrudin "Bato" Čengić, a legendary filmmaker who helped shape Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Yugoslav film industry.

Thank you to all of those who participated in the audience awards voting process. “Enter the Dragon” by Ozren Milharcić won the BHFF™ 2008 Audience Award for the Best Documentary Film BHFF™ and “The Rhythm of Life” by Enver Puška won the 2008 Audience Award for the Best Short or Feature Film. As in years past, “The Golden Apple” awards were designed by the accomplished Bosnian-American artist Aida Šehović.
Among notable guests were DJ Tomo who came all the way from Frankfurt to spin at our parties, Ozren Milharcić and Nino Raspudić (“Enter the Dragon”), Sabina Varjača (“Back to Bosnia”), artists Aida Šehović i Nebojša Šeric Shoba as well as Mirsada Čolaković (Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations), Jasminka Dinić (Permanent Mission of Croatia to the United Nations) and Matti Lehtonen (United Nations).
The fifth annual film festival continues to be a true community effort and would have been impossible without the support of participating filmmakers, distributors, production companies, volunteers, sponsors, media partners, and others from all over the world. We are extremely grateful for their passion, enthusiasm and dedication.
A special thanks goes to:

  • Our sponsors: Archipelagos Architecture and Design (Official Sponsor), Trust Realty (Presenting Sponsor), EventLink Group (Major Sponsor) with additional support from Dr. Amra Spahić-Musakadić and Denis Ahmetović.

Odpoceo "Projekat Ferhadija"
